First Book: Literacy Program for Title I Schools

We just found out about a great literacy program called First Book. If you are an educator and at least 70% of the students in your program come from low-income families, First Book wants to help you put books in the classroom.

First Book offers a marketplace where teachers can find new books at 50 to 90 percent off retail prices. Additionally First Book has a National Book Bank offering free books. The only catch is that you pay the shipping of $.35 to $.50 per book.

We love that First Book allows you to choose the specific titles from their store. They have a huge selection with Spanish language titles, music and arts books, global stories, STEM books as well as ordinary fiction and nonfiction.

First Book also offer book grants through local Advisory Boards. There is also a recipient resource center with tips and tools for programs.
